Get Your Idaho Teaching Certification
Becoming certified to teach in Idaho is a relatively straightforward process that requires a Bachelor’s degree, passing scores on an assessment exam, and a criminal background check. If you earned your degree from an accredited college or university with an approved teacher preparation program in Idaho, you have most of your work completed for certification. Alternate routes to teaching in Idaho are also available.
In order to receive certification to teach in Idaho, you must hold a Bachelor’s degree. If you completed an accredited teacher preparation program in Idaho, then you must also pass the Praxis II test, submit an application with applicable fees, and submit a fingerprint card for a criminal background check. Once you receive the certification, it is good for five years before you will need to renew it.
Getting certified is a start, but finding that job is the next important step. In the Independent School District of Boise City, you will find schools with an emphasis on child-focused education that ranges from highly gifted classes to bilingual education. Nampa School District touts the most diverse and progressive schools in Idaho, while Pocatello and Idaho Falls both have school districts of comparable size and demographics offering solid education in community-oriented settings.
With teaching experience under your belt, you will eventually need to renew your teaching certification. In order to do so, you will need to have completed six semester credit hours from an accredited college or university during the previous five years. Up to three of those hours may be substituted with inservice hours. One inservice hour is equal to 15 clock hours.
