Get Your Nebraska Teaching Certification

If becoming a teacher in Nebraska, the heart of the Midwest, is your goal, then you can start by attending an accredited college or university with an approved teacher preparation program. Nebraska has specific requirements for certification that are met by going through a state-approved program in Nebraska and include human relations training and special education training.

To obtain your certification in Nebraska, you must have your Bachelor’s degree. If you have attended an approved program, you will have taken the appropriate human relations and special education courses required by the state. In addition, you must have passed a basic skills competency exam and must have submitted an Institutional Verification Form completed by the certification officer or registrar at your school. Finally, you will need a fingerprint card to submit for a criminal background check.

Once you have received your certification in Nebraska, you will need to find a teaching position. Omaha Public Schools is the largest district in Nebraska and embraces its diversity and excellence in teaching. Lincoln schools offer a strong education based on both the basics as well as athletics, arts, and languages. After teaching in Nebraska schools for five years, you will need to renew your certification. In order to qualify for this, you will need to verify at least two consecutive years of teaching and six pre-approved semester hours of continuing education. Each five year period that you hold your Nebraska license will require an additional six semester hours of continuing education and verification of two consecutive years of teaching.
