Get Your Nevada Teaching Certification

Becoming a teacher in Nevada is pretty straightforward. The easiest way to go about earning your license is to complete your education at an accredited college or university with an approved teacher preparation program that includes student teaching experience. If you did not receive this experience in your program, then you can substitute three years of full-time, contracted teaching experience.

In order to receive licensure to teach in Nevada, you must hold a Bachelor’s degree. If you completed an accredited teacher preparation program in Nevada, submit an application with applicable fees, an official transcript from your school, a child support disclosure form, and a fingerprint card for a criminal background check. Upon approval, you will receive a Provisional Teaching License that is valid for three years.

Once you have received your license to teach, you will want to find a placement at a school in Nevada. Clark County School District is the largest district in the state and the fifth largest in the nation. It covers the cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, and North Las Vegas, three of the four largest cities in Nevada. Due to the size of this district and their explosive growth recently, they have been engaged in creative recruiting to find teachers. Washoe County School District in Reno is the second largest district and offers high quality education in another rapidly growing area.

After you have taught in a Nevada school for three years with your Provisional Teaching License, you will need to apply for a Standard Teaching License. The Standard Teaching License is good for five years and requires six professional development credits for renewal.
