Get Your Rhode Island Teaching Certification

If you would like to become a teacher in Rhode Island, you will first need to graduate from an accredited college or university with an approved teacher preparation program. You will also need to pass the appropriate assessment tests. In order to find employment in Rhode Island, you will first need to secure a certification with a Certificate of Eligibility for Employment (CEE).

In order to obtain your CEE, you will need to complete an application packet that includes any appropriate fees, an official copy of your transcript, official scores from the Praxis tests appropriate for your area of specialty, and proof that at least six semester hours of college work was completed within the last five years. Once you receive your CEE, you will then be eligible to seek employment.

When looking for your teaching position in Rhode Island, you may want to focus on the larger districts in the state. Providence Schools offer magnet and charter schools as well as a strong relationship between families, community, and schools to ensure the best success for its students. Warwick schools provide a challenging learning environment designed to enable each student to reach their full potential. The district is currently undergoing redistricting and consolidation. Cranston and Pawtucket offer small student-to-teacher ratios in a community-oriented environment.

After you have found your job, the next step will be to receive a Professional Certificate. In order to obtain this certificate, you must submit your CEE along with documentation from your employer that you have been hired. Additionally, you will need to create and submit an Individual Professional Development Plan (I-Plan). You will be eligible for renewal every five years upon completion of your I-Plan each renewal period.
