Get Your Wyoming Teaching Certification
If you want to be a teacher in Wyoming, the first thing you need to do is obtain your Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Additionally, you will need to complete an approved teacher preparation program that includes student teaching experience. Finally, after you have graduated, you will need a recommendation from your school for certification.
In order to become certified to teach in Wyoming, you will need to submit an application that includes transcripts from your school, a fingerprint card that will allow a criminal background check to be run, results from the appropriate assessment exams, either coursework or successful completion of exams demonstrating your knowledge of both the U.S. and Wyoming Constitution, a recommendation from your school, and any applicable fees. Upon approval, you will be issued an Initial Certification.
After having received your Initial Certification to teach in Wyoming, you will need to find a job. Laramie County School District in Cheyenne is the largest district in Wyoming. A solid education provided through traditional classrooms offers a good future to the students in this district. Natrona County School District in Casper believes in an education that starts with community involvement and realizes the specific needs of the individual student. The K-12 substance abuse program and the ESL program in this district have both garnered national recognition. Albany County School District in Laramie and Campbell County School District #1 in Gillette both provide quality education in districts with strong connections to their communities.
When you have completed five years of teaching in Wyoming, your Initial Certification will need to be renewed. In order to renew your certificate, you will need to complete five renewal or professional development credits. These credits can be either college courses, approved workshops, or work toward National Board Certification. Your renewed certificate will also be valid for five years and has the same renewal requirements.
