The SMART TEACHING handbook described under Topic #3 comes with a CD-ROM that contains both PDF files and PowerPoint slides. However, on the CD-ROM the slides are too small for PowerPoint presentations to larger groups. To enlarge the PowerPoint slides, follow these steps:
- Insert your CD-ROM in a computer with a Windows operating system and PowerPoint program.
- Save the PowerPoint slides to your desktop or to a folder on your desktop. (You can just drag a set of PowerPoint slides like “Figures 1-26” onto your desktop to copy.)
- Open the PowerPoint presentation on a slide.
- Go to the TOOLS menu and select CUSTOMIZE.
- Under the TOOLBARS tab in the window that appears, scroll to and select PICTURE. Also then click on RESET in the right of the window; verify this and close the window.
- Note the toolbar that appears to the left of your PowerPoint slide.
- Click on the PowerPoint slide and then click on the cropping tool in the middle of the toolbar described in #6 above.
- Move your cursor to the middle cropping dash at the very top of your screen and click-hold-drag the cropping line to just above the slide level (like “Introduction” or “Figure #1”) on the screen. Let go the mouse.
- Repeat procedure #8 by moving the bottom cropping line up to just below the blue shadow at the bottom of your slide.
- You have now cropped or deleted white space on the slide. You can click the picture toolbar closed
- Click on and drag your entire cropped slide to the upper left of your white space. Click-hold-drag the lower middle margin dot and then the right middle margin dot to the edge of the cropped white space. You have now enlarged this one slide.
- Go to the FILE menu and select SAVE. You must repeat this procedure for each slide that you want to have available in enlarged format on your desktop. Of course, once you have done this for each slide, you can save the entire set or two sets to a blank CD-ROM.
